- Tank abandonment — septic contractor, pump-out plus crush/fill, permitted
- Restoration — driveway, yard, landscaping
North Georgia. Forsyth, Cherokee and neighboring growth counties are actively extending sewer into previously rural areas. When a main reaches your street you may face a mandatory-connection ordinance or a special assessment on your tax bill. Typical homeowner cost: tap/connection fee set by the utility, plus a plumber to run the lateral and a septic contractor to pump and properly abandon the tank (crush or fill — it can't just be left). When it beats a new drain field: if a main is at the street and the field has failed, connection is often cheaper than $8,000–$20,000+ in Piedmont clay; $10,000–$25,000+ over Blue Ridge rock — and it ends the septic maintenance cycle permanently. When it doesn't: a long lateral, a lift pump because the house sits below the main, or no main within reach.
